Juanita O'Keefe

Juanita is a Special Counsel in our Insurance & Health team and is based in the Hobart office.

Juanita specialises in:

With over 30 years of extensive experience in commercial litigation, Juanita advises insurers, insureds and self-insureds on a broad range of matters including public liability and professional indemnity claims, employment risk and disciplinary proceedings and medical negligence claims.

“My approach to managing claims is to identify risks at the earliest possible stage. My experience allows me to proactively resolve claims efficiently, while keeping the focus on achieving favorable commercial outcomes for my clients.”

Before joining Barry Nilsson, Juanita spent nearly 15 years in an in-house legal role at a leading Tasmanian University, where she managed litigation and legal risk (both insured and uninsured liability).

“I’m excited to return to private practice, where I can draw on my in-house and litigation experience to provide value to clients of Barry Nilsson. My goal is to guide clients through their legal challenges and partner with them to achieve commercially beneficial outcomes.”

Juanita holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws (Hons.) She is a Director of Volunteering Tasmania and has held numerous past Director roles. She is a member of AILA and a Graduate of the Institute of Company Directors.
