Steve Richards

Steve is a Special Counsel in our Insurance & Health team and is based in the Perth office.

Steve has extensive litigation and dispute resolution experience, with a particular focus in the areas of fatal accidents, property damage, motor vehicle personal injury, and aviation claims.

'Practising in insurance law has always interested me as it encompasses a broad range of legal issues that are not only insurance-related but also necessitates a degree of understanding and familiarity with various statutory regimes including workers’ compensation, employment law, privacy obligations, and interpretation and application of commercial contracts.'

Steve provides both insurer and self-insured clients with detailed and comprehensive legal advice and an overall strategy to progress matters towards resolution by negotiated settlement or judgment. He has also acted for both defendants and plaintiffs at the District, Supreme, and High Court levels.

'When providing advice to clients, it is important to arrive at a more ‘balanced’ conclusion that considers the totality of the evidence, the positions of all parties as well as the inherent risks involved with litigation.'

Prior to joining BN, Steve predominantly worked for insurance-based firms but also gained experience working at a Plaintiff personal injury firm as well as secondments to in-house legal counsel and claims management roles.
