Sophie is a litigation and regulatory lawyer with over two decades’ experience in the financial services industry. She specialises in regulatory compliance and risk management, product governance, policy wordings, professional indemnity disputes, and general commercial advice.
Sophie acts for a diverse range of clients across financial services, insurance, property, legal, and engineering industries. Her clients include insurers, underwriting agencies, brokers, corporate insureds and broker associations, as well as accountants, financial advisers, and mortgage/finance brokers. Sophie has been recognised by Legal 500 for bringing long-standing experience to her insurance sector clients. Sophie also represents professionals in the property and construction industries including engineers, architects, surveyors, and real estate agencies.
Sophie has extensive experience advising in regulatory investigations and inquiries, including by AFCA, ASIC, EPA, State, and Federal human rights’ commissions and Workcover. She has acted in complex litigation, including class actions, as well as defended management liability, workplace health and safety prosecutions, and employment practices liability claims. Sophie also defends professional indemnity and liability claims, defamation and matters involving allegations of negligence, statutory breaches, and contractual disputes.
As part of her practice, Sophie regularly advises on the development of new financial products, drafts disclosure documents, designs distribution arrangements, undertakes due diligence, and negotiates insurance provisions in commercial agreements.
