Kate specialises in public liability, professional indemnity, and medical malpractice claims. She has practiced exclusively in insurance law throughout her career.

Kate acts for major insurance companies in the defence of claims regarding professional indemnity and disciplinary matters, public liability, personal injury, and defamation. Her experience extends across a range of industries including professional services, building and construction, property/real estate, and finance. This work has included class actions and recovery actions against insureds. She also has trial experience in the South Australian District, Magistrates’, and Coroners’ Courts as well as the Fair Work Commission.

In addition to her legal career, Kate has been a successful business owner for over a decade. This hands-on experience has given her valuable insight into the practical realities, challenges, risks, and competing priorities involved in running a business. It deepens her understanding of claims from both legal and commercial perspectives, enabling her to offer clients pragmatic advice through a commercial lens.

'Being an insurance lawyer offers the opportunity to be constantly curious. I learn about so many different industries and areas. One day I might be investigating why fast setting concrete didn’t set with scientific experts, and another day I am finding out the latest treatments for traumatic brain injuries. At the end of the day though, everything comes back to providing our clients with the best advice possible on the risks they face from a claim, so that they can decide the next steps with confidence.'

Kate provides timely advice to clients and includes recommendations for future conduct of matters. She takes pride in ensuring that her advice considers the commercial realities of litigation and options for settlement to reduce unnecessary costs while also ensuring that the settlement is reasonable and appropriate based on the evidence.
