James specialises in construction litigation, professional indemnity, and public liability. His expertise spans a wide spectrum, from complex multi-party construction disputes to personal injury matters and class actions. He has a particular interest in claims involving combustible or allegedly non-compliant ACP cladding.

James has acted and advised insurers in Australia and overseas, predominantly the UK, on numerous professional indemnity notifications, claims, and litigated matters involving a suite of different disciplines ranging from white collar to construction. Having spent his entire career in insurance, James brings deep industry insight and a strong understanding of insurers’ unique reporting requirements. He is well-regarded by insurers and insureds alike, acting in both defence and coverage roles.

'Advising on litigation strategy is a bit like the Building Code of Australia. Always be on the lookout for an alternative solution.'

While James values clear written communication and appreciates the value of a good email, he prioritises direct conversations and builds strong rapport with his clients and relevant stakeholders. Picking up the phone ensures client needs are fully understood and remain central to every decision. His focus is simple: make the client’s objectives the driving force behind every matter.
