Emma Baker

Emma is a Senior Associate in our Insurance and Health team and is based in the Brisbane office.

Emma has over 15 years’ experience as a solicitor practising in insurance and commercial litigation. She specialises in:

• Medical negligence claims;
• Health disciplinary investigations and proceedings;
• Professional indemnity claims;
• Policy coverage advice.

Emma enjoys acting for medical and allied health professionals, hospitals and their insurers. She has over 10 years’ experience acting for dentists, psychologists, doctors, physiotherapists and other allied health professionals in negligence claims and disciplinary proceedings.

Emma’s recent experience includes acting for Ahpra and a number of the National Health Practitioner Boards in disciplinary referrals to QCAT. In addition, she has worked in house for a State Government department advising on statutory interpretation, procedural fairness, information privacy and commercial contracts.

She is also experienced in defending professional indemnity claims against a variety of other professionals including solicitors, property valuers, accountants and engineers.

Emma’s clients appreciate her personable approach and her ability to distil complex legal issues in a practical and concise way.

Emma is listed in the 2023 and 2024 editions of Best Lawyers for Insurance Law and Professional Malpractice Litigation. She has a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Queensland.
