Bernard is a highly experienced coverage and defence specialist, with a strong focus on major and complex matters across energy, infrastructure, property, inland marine, and professional indemnity, particularly within the construction and engineering sectors.

Bernard advises on first party property and construction risks, as well as acting in defence of complex multi-party litigated, and un-litigated, major defect, mitigation, delay, and recovery actions involving public infrastructure, energy (including renewables), SME’s, and first party property. He has deep expertise in class actions and commercial litigation involving policy and coverage issues.

Bernard regularly acts for both domestic and international insurers in high-value, multi-party disputes, both litigated and unlitigated. His experience extends to acting for builders, engineers, architects/designers, and certifiers.

'From my experience, it is critically important to take the time to know our clients well, so that we understand their commercial perspectives and approaches to the issues that we advise on. In doing so we can work closely in partnership to achieve their goals.'

Bernard is recognised for his clear and effective methodology. He collaborates closely with clients such as builders, engineers, architects, designers, and certifiers, to identify the key issues and deliver practical, strategic solutions.

Bernard focuses on distilling the core issues in disputes plainly and concisely, ensuring that complex matters are broken down into their essential elements. He partners with his clients throughout the process, fostering collaboration and transparency to achieve practical, strategic outcomes.
