Anna has over 18 years of experience handling general insurance claims both in Australia and the UK specialising in:
- Public liability, including occupiers’ and product liability
- Complex property damage claims
- Policy issues
- Silicosis claims
Anna has acted in a number of complex multi-party disputes involving issues of contractual indemnity and dual insurance. She also acted in a matter involving questions of policy interpretation that went to the High Court.
She manages a number of claims that involve complex issues of liability and quantum, apportionment within differing statutory regimes and have multiple parties and is proactive in identifying issues early, and working collaboratively with other parties, to reduce claim costs and timeframes. Anna also appreciates where it is necessary to maintain a robust approach to protect her clients’ interests, and how defence costs ought best be allocated, to produce the best claim outcomes.
'Since joining Barry Nilsson I have been lucky enough to be exposed to many aspects of insurance litigation. A particular interest for me now is dust related/silicosis claims, which are rapidly on the rise.'
Anna acts for both insurers and self insureds, including acting directly for a number of large corporations.
'There are many reasons why I enjoy my work. Particular highlights are the diversity of the matters I act in, the exposure to new and complex issues and the relationships that have been formed with colleagues and clients. I also enjoy the evolving nature of litigation and having the opportunity to think and act creatively to achieve good outcomes for my clients with whom I have worked to establish an ongoing relationship, so that they know they can rely on my advice.
Anna aims to resolve claims at an early and appropriate time without incurring unnecessary costs and is focused on accurate, early reserving of claims having regular and open discussions with claim handlers in order to assist with placing an appropriate reserve.
