National law firm Barry Nilsson (BN) has appointed Sasha Jeffrey-Bailey as Principal to its Insurance and Health Law practice, overseeing the abuse team in Melbourne.

Ms Jeffrey-Bailey returns to BN’s Insurance and Health Law practice after four years in an in-house role managing a technical claims team focused on abuse law.

Insurance and Health Law Principal lead Peter Ewin said Ms Jeffrey-Bailey would spearhead Barry Nilsson’s specialist abuse practice in Melbourne, while also leveraging her expertise in other areas including property and liability.

'Sasha is an outstanding lawyer who brings extensive experience in both private practice and in-house roles, so we are thrilled to welcome her back to our growing team.' - Peter Ewin.

'Since Sasha was first with us in 2015, our dedicated national abuse practice – and our Melbourne office as a whole – have grown significantly, so her experience working across both state and national jurisdictions will be invaluable,' Mr Ewin said. 'The quality of our insurance lawyers demonstrates BN’s commitment to providing our clients with the highest level of technical ability and client service.'

This latest appointment brings the firm’s total number of principals to 35 nationally, and its female representation at principal level to more than 37 per cent, above the national industry average of 30 per cent.

Working in an in-house role for four years, Ms Jeffrey-Bailey said she was excited to return to the firm to lead the Victorian abuse team.

'I always knew that if I were to return to private practice, it would be to BN – I’m really looking forward to working with Peter and the BN team again.' - Sasha Jeffrey-Bailey.

'When first working at BN as an Associate and Senior Associate, I predominately serviced BN’s clients in the injury and abuse space. It’s exciting to be returning to this role, particularly given the significant legal developments that have occurred in recent years, and the growth the BN team has experienced. While I’m certainly looking forward to undertaking technical legal work again, I am also very much looking forward to working with our younger lawyers and supporting their growth and development.'
