In our next First Thursday Club webinar, BN's national Health Law and Life Sciences team welcomes the Mater Education team to provide us with an overview of their High Value Conversations (HVC) Program.

Being able to have safe conversations in healthcare should be a given, however unfortunately that’s not always the case. The ability to have safe conversations, whether it be between doctor and nurse, doctor and patient, or allied health worker and the family of the patient, is a foundation of high quality healthcare. Patients will be less likely to make complaints and bring claims against a healthcare provider when they believe that they are being listened to. Safe conversations between healthcare workers helps to prevent medical errors, enhances diagnostic accuracy, and lowers healthcare costs.

The HVC Program is designed to empower employees to navigate challenging interpersonal situations, provide constructive feedback, and safely question unprofessional or unsafe behaviour regardless of their rank or position.

Presented by Dr Christopher Pyke (Mater Chief Medical Officer), Alasdair Torrie (Manager Programs and Partnerships), and Michael Scott (Manager of Risk and Insurance), this session will provide insights into how healthcare providers at all levels can consistently have conversations which are respectful, helpful and curious, and which promote an organisational culture of psychological safety in the workplace.
